Our Green Office.
At Michael Limb Builders we believe that being "eco-considerate" is about making small but smart choices consistently. Spending vast amounts of money on the very latest products is wonderful for those who can afford it, however, it is quite often the small changes we make that can have the most impact. Therefore we wanted to outline, the little things we have done to ensure our office is 'green'.
- All of our paper used is recycled. Reflex for example stock paper that is 100% recycled and Australian made, its acid free and remarkably white! We also use Tudor Eco brand. They have an unbleached natural color, are 100% recycled paper and Australian made. Where possible we email clients/subcontractors pdf format plans to reduce unnecessary photocopying, besides which many trades are now carrying ipads or similar which gives easy access to all job information. Any paper no longer required is shredded and added to our own compost bin/worm farm.
- Our desk was constructed from recycled doors that were stripped back and stained with a natural oil. Placed on top of recycled kitchen cupboards, it presents as a neat and tidy work area with plenty of storage.
- Natural light is important, therefore our work area sits below a double window allowing plenty of light and fresh air ventilation. Rather than excessive ceiling lights, when needed we utilise spot lights that are fitted with CFL globes.
- The room is on the south side and well insulated therefor air conditioning isn't necessary.
- We have installed solar panels.
- In terms of cleaning products both in our office, and on site, we use Earth Choice brand where necessary, microfibre cloths, vinegar and bi-carb soda. There are some great blogs and/or websites around detailing fantastic cleaning recipes that are cheap and really effective.
As stated above its the small things that count. We are always on the look out for new ideas and appreciate any feedback.
